Cuts and shapes

You can cut your shape for the hand or footprints out of the dough.  Make sure it’s big enough for the pattern you want.  Here are a few cool ideas to do for mom.

Circles

The classic and the easiest to make.  There’re lots of spots to add a little extra here and there.

Heart-shaped

Adding heart shapes is always a great way to say “I love you.”  You can make the shape as your print or use hands to shape it.  Or cut a little heart here and there.  Or even make it into a picture frame shaped like a heart.

Butterflies

The beauty of a butterfly is all the colors. So if you make this one be sure to paint it afterward. You will want a decent size cut for this one it will need four handprints. Don’t forget to add the body and head to the print.

Flowers

Flowers can be delightfully simple: just one print with a stem and leaves or a beautiful bouquet of a bunch of prints. Be sure to color them with lots of colors.

Dinosaurs

If you’re a boy mom like me you know there’s got to be a few dinos in the mix. Make a few dinos will keep your boys happy. Offering the chance to make one of their favorites with their hands will be a ton of fun.

Hands and feet

You can make a ton of different combinations with hands and feet.

Decorating

Once your prints are cool you can decorate them.  Paint and stickers are easy and a fun way to add color.

Our Handprint Craft

We had a lot of fun making our handprint. Aiden loved making the dough, rolling it out, and making different designs. We redid a bunch of the prints we made. Once we had what Aiden wanted to decorate they went in the oven.

We choose to paint our creations. It was fun. Since it was cold outside we painted on the piece of poster board. Which kept the mess to a minimum. It took about 4 hours in total to make this print.

Baking Your Creation

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.  Mix all three ingredients.  Roll it out and cut out desired shapes large enough for hand or footprints.

Layout shapes on a greased baking sheet.  Make prints on the sheet.  Place in the oven and bake for at least 2 and a half hours.  Make sure it’s fully hardened.  If not bake for another 30 minutes until firm.
