Resolutions 2018, Listening, Time and Health

At the beginning of every new year, I make a list.  It’s a list of things I want to change in the coming year.  The resolution list that I’m sure you make too.  Sometimes it’s a good idea and sometimes it’s too much improvement to get anywhere.  This year, resolutions 2018, I am trying to focus so I limited myself to three things.

  1. Listening first
  2. Using time wisely
  3. Healthier habits

This is a little vague.  They are meant to be.  There’s a broad range for improvement and a limiting focus so the improvements can be a win each day.

Listening First

Too often talking comes first.  It wasn’t always a problem for me.  It is now.  Now I never seem to hear anyone else.  It’s about my problems and when I try to listen to someone else I need to turn it into something about me.

That doesn’t make me a very good friend.  And I’m in the market for some new ones.  My goal is to listen.  To actually hear what others have to say.

This applies to my son and husband too.

My son is a talker.  Usually, it’s hard to hear yourself think around him.  Sometimes I think that part of the reason he talks so much is that we’re always so busy.  He’s not sure we heard what he has to say so he’s on repeat until someone talks to him about what he is saying.

Toddler talks aside, my husband needs a conversation or two.  He loves his 2 am talks.  I’m tired and rarely want to talk.  That’s when he’s at his chattiest.  That’s a part of the day too.  Even if I like to sleep through it.  That’s when he wants to talk.

Using Time Wisely

I know this one applies to all of us.  Time always seems to escape throughout the day.  There’s never enough of it.  It’s just hard to find.

There are definitely things that could be eliminated out of my daily routine that would save time.  It would also help to say no when I don’t think I can get it all done in the day.  Scheduling my time into blocks would also help this year.

I always mean to schedule but it gets hard and I rarely keep up with or forget to change something whether it’s to cancel or add.  This year, I got this planner and quite like it already.  It’s called Do It All.  It’s a weekly planner with lots of space to write in.  It also has some stickers to use in the monthly section so you don’t miss appointments. It even has little rip out sheets for to-do or shopping lists.  And there’s a little pocket in the front for receipts or small envelopes and a section in the back for business cards or loyalty cards.

Healthier Habits

I would love to drop a few pounds, eat right, exercise every day and drink more water.  Will that be a priority ever again?  I would like it to be.  I was at my healthiest when I went to China in 2012.  It’s been that long since the last healthy regimen was a priority in my life.

With my toddler to chase, low sleep because of my job and starting this blog it’s been on the bottom of the to-do pile.  That has resulted in me been 200 lbs and asked at least once a week if I’m having another baby.  That means it’s time for a change and hopefully a few better eating (like my vegan dish) and exercising habits.
