5 Tips to Enjoy Fall Despite Covid-19

Sharing is caring!

We’ll it feels like this year has been one disappointment after another.  I’m currently struggling with my son’s 6th birthday.  Should we have a party?  Will anyone actually come?  Should we just stick with family this year?  I can tell you that he’s going to be disappointed regardless of what I choose.  Regardless we hope to enjoy fall this year and give you some ideas so you can enjoy fall too.

Trying to be social and safe this year is like trying to sneak out the baby’s room after putting them down through the gantlet of light up and singing toys.  It’s just not easy to find anything fun to do.  If you’re feeling brave here are a few ways to keep as safe as you can while being social.

  • Go early or late.  If it’s an all-day event chance are most folks will show up the afternoon.  Filling up around 3 or 4 o’clock the morning is your friend if you’re hoping to avoid the crowds. Then starts to get quieter when kids start to get tired.
  • Keep your distance.  I know you’ve probably heard this a lot.  Following your local guidelines is a no-brainer but it’s so easy to get too close inline or in a small group.  Keeping your space is all of our responsibility.
  • Do things outside. Spend time outside at the playgrounds, state parks, and festivals.
  • Get your exercise outside.  Before it gets too cold (or if you’re hearty even when it’s cold) do your best to stay outside for exercise.  Get that daily dose of vitamin D. Its mood-boosting and immune system boosting.

How to Find Low-Risk Activities?

Look for groups that are small.  One or two friends to play with at the park or meet up with at the local YMCA and go swimming.

Right now, we’re playing soccer outside. The teams are 4 on 4.  It’s a great way to get a little socializing in without being around too many people.

What Can We Do as a Family to Celebrate Fall?

apple picking with his best friend

Take advantage of a long weekend and enjoy some family time. There may not be any big fall festivals to attend but there may be smaller ones through YMCAs, farms, or local churches.

We went out to a local farm for apple picking and the pumpkin patch with Aiden’s best friend.

Get outside and be active. Play in the leaves. Go pick apples or pumpkins.  Have hot cider and watch the stars.  Go on a hike you skipped over the summer. Don’t forget to take pictures.

throwback Aiden's fall fun

Moms who are hoping to make memories this fall just remember that it doesn’t have to be amazing activities.  It can be jumping in a pile of leaves a hundred times together.  Or exploring a forest path and discovering a stream to play in.
